The Adler Mannheim , Mannheim Eagles, formerly Mannheimer ERC, is an ice hockey team in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga, the highest ranking ice hockey league in Germany. Currently, the team plays at SAP Arena, with a capacity of 13,600 ice hockey spectators.

The Adler Mannheim were already champions of the German Bundesliga in 1980. After the Deutsche Eishockey Liga was founded in 1994, the Mannheim Eagles were able to win the championship seven more times in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2007, 2015 and 2019. They also won the German Cup in 2003 and 2007 and were runners-up in 2006.

Adler Mannheim started using the Dartfish solution at the beginning of this season to manage their training and team coaching. They were looking to better prepare their players for their upcoming opponents, as well as incorporating an efficient and easy-to-use performance analysis process.

Just ONE Solution to Analyze Every Step of Performance

Adler’s video analyst, Florian Keinz, uses the Dartfish solution to analyze several aspects of his team’s performance:

Scouting Opponents

Dartfish software provides Florian with relevant, accurate statistics and analytics on their upcoming opponents including, goals, assists, shots and shot attempts, shifts breakdown by player, hits, face-offs, and special teams play – power play and penalty kill. These statistics and metrics come with the corresponding video, as well as advanced scouting reports. (Are power play and penalty play apart of special teams play?  If so, this reads correctly.  If not, it should read:   offs, special teams play, power play, and penalty kill.

This time-saving detailed report allows the coach to quickly figure out who their players will face in the next game and how to implement the most efficient strategy to win.

After the game, video analysis continues, figuring out which actions worked and which were less effective, in order to improve for the next competition.

Dartfish is a reliable program, supporting players during the match, both at home and at away matches.”

Live Tagging

With a 4-camera system, the Dartfish solution provides a comprehensive view of both individual and team play. The video analyst tags, reviews and edits action in real-time, while continuing to record the live game.

The tagging data are directly merged to the video. Every key play can be found without delay, then saved as a clip for further review.

With Dartfish.tv, coaches are able to easily review game analytics and statistics on their players and teams, directly from their computers or mobile apps.

Adler Mannheim also uses Dartfish’s live collaboration system to deliver to their players and coaches, real-time information about the opponent during the match, to adjust play and to react as needed.

Present Game Changing Insights

It’s important to review the game with the team after the game or training. Florian Keinz, Adler Mannheim’s video analyst, especially uses the Still Shots to quickly collect and visualize relevant action in order to get straight-to-the-point during game review.

Still Shots allow extraction from the entire video, to highlight the most important moments with analysis tools and/or annotations. These enriched Still Shots are shared with the coaches, so vital play info is easily recognized.

You won’t overlook any clips or drawings during a presentation, because the video stops automatically where you have extracted the still shot.”

Split-screen is also an incredible tool, allowing players to see their actions from different perspectives.

To build a relevant presentation without wasting time, the video analyst does the pre-scout, selecting pertinent clips to share with the coaches, adding analysis, comments, and data if needed.

The assistant coach reviews the clips, selecting the ones that are presentation worthy. Finally, the head coach reviews the final selection and presents the final clips to the team.

Dartfish.tv is More than a Cloud

In addition to the analysis software, Adler Mannheim uses Dartfish TV, a collaborative cloud-based video platform to store, organize, and share enriched video content.

This sharing platform is the link between Adler, analysts, coaches, and players.

The Adler video analyst can tag a live game from home or from where-ever. After the game, he uploads the tagged video to Dartfish TV and the next morning the assistant coach can download and share the video.

There is no hardware or stick needed to share the content. Thanks to dartfish.tv, the coaching team can work independently, remotely and it saves time.”

Dartfish.tv is organized by channels and thanks to a member rights management system, the platform enables a channel’s admin, to distribute content following rights s/he defines.

On the other hand, Dartfish TV content is also about indexing by collection, keywords, and playlists, allowing users to easily filter and find specific content.

We are working in the fastest sport in the world and that requires acting quickly. So features like Live Collaboration and other Dartfish solutions, support us when we need to make quick decisions.

We are very happy to use the solutions of Dartfish.”
