The stars of our promo movie for Dartfish Express are the staff and customers of Muscle Performance Science, a successful small business operating just a short drive from the Dartfish USA offices in Atlanta. You can see from their website that they don’t have big bucks to splash out on web designers and technology but they succeed in creating a strong message with an off-the-peg solution. All the more interesting then that they have embraced video technology in the form of myDartfish – we asked MPS owner Bronson Walters, “Why?”

“Already from a budget point of view, we are finding the solution pays for itself, actually in two ways. The first is perhaps obvious; when performing a biomechanical evaluation I charge a fee. This includes access to the athlete’s own evaluation video in an online locker where both they and their agent can see it, also we provide them with therapies, including appropriate videos to aid correct execution. This video collection also allows us to continue communication with athletes upon returning to their team/university. myDartfish has definitely improved our athletes’ understanding of their biomechanical imbalances and corrections required to avoid injury and enhance their performance.

“The second way our video has increased revenues was unexpected but it seems new customers are finding us through myDartfish experience. Video analysis allows attention to finer details of human movement and its use is a point of differentiation of MPS’ services. I believe by doing things differently and focusing attention in this way, I’m able to find imbalances others may overlook, therefore we perform better at delivering an athlete back to the field or court.

“Athletes are typically visual learners and although you can find any number of videos on YouTube explaining how to lift, when my staff and I are able to provide them with instant feedback of their own performance, they are able to immediately understand and instantly make corrections and that saves valuable training time. Add to that us being able to add our coaching points directly on the video, then upload it for future reference and we have an invaluable tool that enhances the biomechanical analysis that we provide”.

MPS are using myDartfish. It’s a simple but complete solution integrating analysis and online sharing in a really elegant way. The myDartfish Express app is used to record video and add still shots and notes. Those recordings are made more or less directly to the myDartfish cloud and any additions or changes made locally  are synchronized with the online equivalent. Each client has his or her own  personal online space which gets shared with them. They can view the video and analysis in a browser, or download it to their own Dartfish Express for more detailed viewing, or simply to allow them to carry with them to training.

Video is captured using the Express app which is then used to give detailed instant feedback and create annotated resources for online viewing.

At $250 per year, Bronson reckons that myDartfish has already paid for itself many times over. Not bad when you consider that the service was only launched in September. We have told you how happy we were when Apple chose Dartfish Express but it makes us just as proud when small companies like Muscle Performance Science tell us how much sense Dartfish makes for them.

Dartfish creates opportunities

myDartfish is just one part of the toolset from Dartfish. Here are some other ways that Dartfish customers are exploiting the additional features of Dartfish software and dartfish.tv channels to generate revenue:

  • Creating and selling drill libraries
  • Charging additional fees for use of video during a session
  • Offering dedicated video analysis lessons
  • Creating unique video imagery such as StroMotion, Simulcam and tagged video
  • Providing video services for competitions, corporate events, camps & clinics
  • Charging for physical performance tests, gait analysis and bike fitting
