Gait analysis using video is a field which encompasses a wide range of uses but whether that be expert customer feedback by the shoe fitter in a specialist sports store, or the qualitative and quantitative analysis by podiatrists, physiotherapists or those fitting prosthetic limbs; we think practitioners in all these fields may learn something from the following gait analysis guide. The author of this guide, Paul Langer DPM is a US podiatrist and the author of Great Feet for Life, Footcare & Footwear for Healthy Aging. This guide will provide brief explanations of gait analysis along with instructions regarding how you can use Dartfish analyzer tools to properly assess the gait of a client. However, be aware that this is written as a superficial overview of video gait analysis and an understanding of the theory and practice of clinical gait analysis is required in order to truly become proficient. The resources listed at the end…

Today Dartfish officially launches myDartfish 360 and 360 S; arguably our biggest single desktop software development since the Austrian Ski Team’s purchase of Simulcam heralded the birth of Dartfish in 1998. Over the years our software has skated the cutting edge. Innovation often driven by the needs of elite and professional sport. They wanted to capture data from force transducers in kayak paddles; integrate sprint start timing systems; capture video live from scientific and networked cameras and from the internet to tag major events taking place half way across the globe. Some of the more obscure tools you’ll find are there because someone, somewhere, needed them. But what of those who don’t have the high-performance budgets or the team of analysts? The amateur coach. The second tier hockey team. Those experts have their own set of challenges, one of which may be cash but another is in even shorter supply. Time.…

Dartfish Software now supports streamed video from the Axis Q1615 MK II and the Merit Lilin UFG1122 IP cameras. These are the first cameras which we have tested which offer a frame rate of up to 120 fps and, in the case of the Lilin camera, full HD (1080p) at this frame rate. Generally speaking, IP cameras are good for video analysis where the camera needs to be to be left in position. They are designed for this; being left permanently switched on; connected to the computer via a network (wired or wireless); free from the cable length restrictions imposed on USB connected devices; and they can be easily weatherproofed. Furthermore, they provide the same controls over the image quality that you’ll find on a decent camcorder: exposure and gain for example. Dartfish has now had many years of experience with capture from IP cameras. We support those which use the ONVIF standard…

Each of the updates to Dartfish 9 has brought a wealth of new features. Have you been keeping up with them? Allow us to help. Here’s what’s new in a nutshell New Windows 10 technologies Windows 10 brought new technology which impacted both video and video devices. Dartfish 9 may be an essential update for those who have upgraded: Particularly, but not exclusively, for those capturing live video streams from webcams. Note Pro – advanced tagging without video The answer to requests from Dartfish users who want to live tag without a video stream and Dartfish Note users who want more versatile and sophisticated tagging tools is Note Pro. A brand new module but one that is recognizable as a Dartfish tagging panel with the capability to produce Notebooks. Several tagging panel features have been improved too: Define Zone tool zones by click and dragZone tool now records both keywords and/or…

The Dartfish Note app tiptoes along that line of being a simple-to-use yet powerful mobile tagging solution. On the one hand, nobody wants to take time to learn how to use an app do they? On the other, Note’s biggest fans do have some great ideas to make it do more; some of which we implement but on others we hesitate. We ask ourselves whether those additions might cost Note its prized ease of use? Note has had the twin advantages of portability and the ability to tag the game as it happens without a live video feed. No more. Dartfish 9 TeamPro edition adds the new Note Pro module. Here it is – videoless tagging with the complete possibilities of a Dartfish tagging panel. Note Pro is instantly recognizable to Dartfish Software users as it is almost identical to Tagging – minus the video display. Existing panels can be used and edited…

By our tally, Dartfish enhanced athletes hung four hundred and sixty two medals around their collective necks in Rio. That’s 47% of all medals won by athletes and teams using Dartfish in training and competition. And that figure has climbed from 42% in London, reflecting both Dartfish’s global reputation and how video analysis continues to grow as an essential part of the development armory. Of course, we cannot say how much each individual athlete has benefited from software owned by a coach, sports institute or national team but the importance placed in video is reflected by both Brazil and Great Britain investing in the development of new Dartfish technologies to assist with video capture during the games. Plus, if you have been following our Facebook feed during the Olympics, you’ll have discovered we have some pretty big name advocates. Being a fan of Dartfish adds a whole new dimension to who you get to cheer for! In…
