The Dartfish video replay system was installed and used at two taekwondo competitions this month:

  • 03-04 Feb 2022: Arab Cup Championship for 2 days,
  • 06-08 Feb 2022: Fujairah Open International Taekwondo Championship for 3 days.

The Setup

The Dartfish Video Replay Systems were used on nine different courts with the following setups:

  • 9 Dartfish Pro S on 9 laptops for 9 taekwondo courts,
  • 2x IP camera set-ups for each court,
  • Controlled with compatible Dartfish dedicated devices, provided fast feedback for video searching.

Video Replay to Clarify Judging Decisions

When an appeal is made, judges can revisit the last event, or for that matter, any part of the video, even as recording continues. Then, slow-motion replay makes the final decision clear to judges and fans.

There is no longer any doubt – in slow motion and from both recorded camera angles, judges are able to deliver impartial and fair decisions.

Instant Video Replay (IVR) in Taekwondo

In Taekwondo, as in many other combat sports, the referees, umpires, or judges are placed under immense pressure to make accurate split-second decisions that determine or contribute to the outcome of the competition.

Video Replay is commonly used during competition to increase the accuracy of officiating. When an objection is raised regarding a judgment call by the refereeing officials during the contest, the athlete’s coach can make a request to the center referee for an immediate review of the video replay.
