On June 11, for one month, the 16th edition of the European Team Tournament is being held. It had been postponed due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. As a result, it will retain the same name – “Euro 2020”.

The competition is THE most popular international football team tournament in Europe, organized by UEFA every 4 years, beginning back in 1960. Since its inception, 61 years have passed.

Currently, 24 teams have participated in this competition. Germany, together with Spain, are the two most dominant teams, winning the most in competition. Note wins below:

  • 3 – Germany in 1972, 1980 and 1996
  • 3 – Spain in 1964, 2008 and 2012
  • 2 – France in 1984 and 2000
  • 1 – Russia in 1960
  • 1 – Italy in1968
  • 1 – The Czech Republic in 1976
  • 1 – Portugal in 2016
  • 1 – The Netherlands in 1988
  • 1 – Denmark in 1992
  • 1 – Greece in 2004

Germany, one of the most historic and celebrated candidate selections, with no doubt of being chosen, has participated the most and won the most, and is positioned yet again to win the title.

Germany’s team, in the qualifying stage, prevailed with their offensive model,  racking up a total of goals converted at 52.83%.

Their goal strategy, overcame 80.36% of their opponent’s counter attacks, within the rival area. This was achieved by shooting from outside the rival area  with conversion in 14.29% of the offensive plays, closing with 5.36% of goals scored from the penalty spot.

In analysis of this world of powerhouse football, we recognize that the four rivals analyzed, were faced with counter attack and direct attack strategies, which were largely successful, opting for waiting and then using a surprising attack or by using intermediate pressure to recover and then attack with speed.
