The AFSS (Association Fribourgeoise de Ski et Snowboard) is the point of reference for winter sports in Fribourg (Switzerland). Affiliated with Swiss Ski and composed of more than 50 ski and snowboard clubs, the association organizes many regional competitions.

At the beginning of 2019, the AFSS, in partnership with Dartfish, implemented a video solution to film the races at the Children’s Cup. The objective was twofold:

  • to promote the dialogue between coaches, athletes and families
  • to improve its sponsors’ visibility by promoting video content.

A Simple and Functional Setup

A camera, positioned at a strategic location for each race, films all the skiers in a specific path. There isn’t any manipulation of the camera. It’s switched on at the beginning of the competition and continuously captures all the skiers, before being stopped after the passage of the last competitor.

The video is then merged into the Dartfish solution with the timing file, provided by the organizer, before being made available to parents and coaches through an intuitive mobile app.

An Intelligent Archiving System

The videos from the different races are automatically sequenced before their publication, according to several predetermined criteria. Thus, the club, the type of race, the place, the category, the classification and the name of the skier are sorted and easily accessible, thanks to advanced filtering options.

The videos of each athlete, posted on Dartfish.tv and on the dedicated mobile app, are available to coaches, affiliated clubs, skiers and their parents.

At a glance on Dartfish.tv, as on the dedicated AFSS mobile app, users can access the specific races of interest to them.

Coaches who weren’t present or unable to observe key passages during a race, can review the races and identify key points needing work, in their future training sessions.

Moreover, in order to further study the performance of skiers, motion analysis tools, such as Simulcam, Stromotion and Split-screen, can be utilized. These analysis tools are available in other solutions developed by Dartfish.

A Dedicated Mobile Application

The AFSS makes a mobile app freely available to its members, enabling athletes, fans, and loved ones to relive all the Fribourg cup races. Each sequence can be shared on social networks or by email via a link, an image, or a short video sequence using the Dartfish.tv platform. Parents, athletes and coaches then become AFSS ambassadors, sharing the races with others.

The AFSS mobile app is available on IOS and Android,  which allows users to view and share all of the channel’s content

Increased Visibility for Sponsors

During the cup’s presentation, a montage of the best moments was created for the spectators. The association also promoted this video content on its website and on its social networks. And it was an opportunity for AFSS to highlight their competition’s main sponsors.

The sponsors are highlighted in the final video and on the Dartfish.tv platform

The implementation of a video solution on the sporting events they support, has many advantages for sponsors, in terms of visibility.

Indeed, sponsors in their marketing campaigns, can promote the enriched video content provided by the organizer’s uniquely designed video solution.

The pilot project, led by AFSS and Dartfish, was warmly received by all the association members. Dartfish is proud to announce that in 2020, this project will be renewed.
