SportsEdTV recently partnered with Dartfish to create an app for coaches. Here’s why?

About SportsEdTV

Our mission at SportsEdTV is to provide the world with the best free video instruction for every sport. By best we mean best coaches (world-class level only), best production (cinema quality only) and best user experience (easy to find, search and navigate website).

We launched in September 2018 with instruction videos for tennis and golf, and weightlifting will follow. Our video libraries are not static, but grow annually at the rate of at least one new video per week. We will be adding new sports in the near future.

We created SportsEdTV because the demand for sports instruction video has exploded in recent years, with billions of videos viewed online annually. However, with the massive proliferation of video providers, especially on YouTube, it has become very difficult for viewers (consumers) to determine the good from the bad when it comes to coaching videos. How is someone just setting out to learn a sport supposed to determine which coaches are good and which are not. Anyone with a mobile phone camera and a YouTube page can now purport to be a coaching “expert”, and there are tens of thousands of such “experts” online today in every sport. We decided to give consumers a little help.

We also wanted to raise the level of video quality and user experience for people looking at free instruction video online. All of our videos are filmed in cinema quality, using multiple HD and 4K cameras, to show many angles of each technique and strategy to our viewers. And our website (www.sportsedtv.com), where all of our videos live, is organized by sports and by topic, with easy-to-use navigation tools. These tools help athletes, coaches and parents find what they want quickly – no wasted time looking at countless videos to find the right one.

Our SportsEdTV Coaches App

While our video content is meant for mass consumption by athletes, parents and coaches alike, we wanted to provide influential coaches in each sport with a mobile tool they can use to highlight key visual aspects of their sport in their day-to-day coaching. We believe that visualization is the key tool that helps bridge the gap between an athlete’s perception and a coach’s observation.

Dartfish technology allows coaches to slow down human movements, some that happen in fractions of a second, so that coaches and athletes can detect deviations that occur too quickly to be detected by the naked eye. This is critical to learning and improvement. We are going to develop a library of best movements for each sport that will be available in the app through our Dartfish.tv channel.

Coaches will access these reference clips on the app and be able to not only view them frame-by-frame or in slow motion but access the key positions that are so important when learning or teaching any movement. Each key position will be highlighted with some very useful graphics, but we also have the ability to add teaching cues in voice over audio.

The Dartfish SportsEdTV Coaches Tool will let coaches review key positions in technique…but now comes the best part.

What if coaches want to use the same app to capture their own video, play in super slow motion and upload video of their athletes to a personal video locker online? Well, this is entirely possible with the package of SportsEdTV App and the myDartfish mobile subscription. In their hands, coaches will the ability to learn the key teaching moments and apply this to their daily coaching. The app lets them capture videos of their own athletes and then compare them to the proven effective techniques. All the tools to annotate videos of their athletes to improve their coaching effectiveness are at their disposal with the global solution. For instance, they can look at differences in technique by comparing angles and postures.

The beauty of the solution is that it can be used right on the spot and, of course, before and after the lesson to preview or reinforce the learning. An important element in our decision was the smart cloud offered with myDartfish solution. Coaches want to keep in contact with their athletes, some want to share their analysis in a private way. YouTube and other platforms do not offer what Dartfish.tv capabilities have. We wanted our app and solution to be a one stop solution for coaches, from viewing and capturing videos to uploading and sharing their analysis.

Dartfish was our obvious choice of partners for this app because of their long track record of leadership in this field, which has been clearly demonstrated by the success of coaches and athletes using their Dartfish tools, including Olympic medal winners, major soccer clubs, MLB teams and NFL champions.

The purpose of our app is to provide leading coaches with a useful tool that makes their coaching more effective. We plan to provide our app to a select group of coaches worldwide.
