The Dartfish Note app tiptoes along that line of being a simple-to-use yet powerful mobile tagging solution. On the one hand, nobody wants to take time to learn how to use an app do they? On the other, Note’s biggest fans do have some great ideas to make it do more; some of which we implement but on others we hesitate. We ask ourselves whether those additions might cost Note its prized ease of use?

Although Dartfish Note provides convenient and portable notation analysis. the new Note Pro on a touch screen laptop almost matches it for portability and certainly beats it for functionality.

Note has had the twin advantages of portability and the ability to tag the game as it happens without a live video feed. No more. Dartfish 9 TeamPro edition adds the new Note Pro module. Here it is – videoless tagging with the complete possibilities of a Dartfish tagging panel.

Note Pro is instantly recognizable to Dartfish Software users as it is almost identical to Tagging – minus the video display. Existing panels can be used and edited in the new module. The differences are; the addition of a Note-style timer; and a button to send Notebooks to dartfish.tv from where they are accessible to other members of the team.

Whereas Tagging adds events directly to the video’s metadata with no need to save, Note Pro does the same using a new Notebook file type. After the game video has been imported, events from the Notebook are added simply by dragging it onto the video display or Events List.

With the latest ultra thin touch screen laptops you have a solution pretty much as portable as an iPad but you’ll also get a larger screen, laptop versatility and the full power of desktop software.

This trend is reflected in Dartfish 9’s touch-screen optimization of the Player. It now provides the types of video control that you may have already used with Dartfish Express on your Smartphone. For example, a combination of a jog wheel and nice fat cue in and out buttons make adjusting the start and end of events a breeze.

Grabbing snapshots for a report, fast forward, slow-motion, frame-by-frame, switching between events (even in full screen) are all now more immediate and, literally, right at your fingertips. Plus you can now use any Windows Media compatible remote control to drive the team presentation.

Note Pro is just one of the new features of Dartfish 9.
