Back in 2013, this blog was telling you about a wireless video solution used by Asics for shoe fit gait analysis. News on that technology is due and last week’s update to our myDartfish Express app heralds a perfect opportunity – it is now possible to capture video from an IP camera, wirelessly, to an iOS app.

The tutorial video shows how simple that can be:

This development represents some serious advantages over what Asics were doing in the past as they could now have the convenience of an app combined with a lower cost of both hardware and software.

The overall solution looks like this: An IP camera (the same kind of camera you see everywhere for security purposes) is connected to a router. Express is connected by WiFi to the same router and it searches for any cameras on the network. It’s even possible to connect directly to a wireless IP camera but one advantage of the router solution is the convenience of being able to pick and choose from a selection of cameras.

Dartfish Software hasn’t been sitting still since 2013 though. It now also has an interface that is optimized for touch screen use and, being more feature rich, it may still be the better solution for some. For example, this is the software you’ll want to use if a wired network connection is preferred, or if the cameras are on a different subnet, or even connected via the internet.
