Today Dartfish officially launches myDartfish 360 and 360 S; arguably our biggest single desktop software development since the Austrian Ski Team’s purchase of Simulcam heralded the birth of Dartfish in 1998.

Over the years our software has skated the cutting edge. Innovation often driven by the needs of elite and professional sport. They wanted to capture data from force transducers in kayak paddles; integrate sprint start timing systems; capture video live from scientific and networked cameras and from the internet to tag major events taking place half way across the globe. Some of the more obscure tools you’ll find are there because someone, somewhere, needed them.

But what of those who don’t have the high-performance budgets or the team of analysts? The amateur coach. The second tier hockey team. Those experts have their own set of challenges, one of which may be cash but another is in even shorter supply. Time. For you, myDartfish 360 is the missing link of the myDartfish solution that you have been waiting for.

The right tools for the job

myDartfish 360 is desktop software which is complemented by the in-your-pocket convenience of two apps: myDartfish Express, for instant feedback & technique analysis and Dartfish Note for game tagging (notational analysis). All – apps and software – are linked by your Smart Cloud, a web platform which distributes video and data between the tools and is also the route by which you share the content you weave from them. When you subscribe to one of the 360 plans, you get all these tools. What is exciting about myDartfish isn’t only how we’ve built simplicity into its interface but also the sum of all parts and how they integrate.

The 360 plan

myDartfish 360 is modeled on the functionality of the myDartfish Express app, with each sharing an online library. Video recorded and analysed on your phone is available for use on the larger screen of your PC and video imported from your camcorder by myDartfish 360 will be on your phone and tablet for use at the next practice.

Like Express, and the Dartfish Analyzer, myDartfish 360 uses the Still Shot – a simple, efficient way of adding information to videowith no chopping or re-rendering required.

The 360 interface simplifies Still Shot analysis to the level of an app. It’s touch screen usable too. Descriptions and drawing tools are right where they are needed.

The 360 S plan

The 360 S plan is all about extracting the lessons learned from match or practice video. If we look at it from the perspective of what you’ll share on your Smart Cloud (see images below) you have a video which is either the full, unedited original or abbreviated highlights extracted from it. Regardless, each is marked up with the segments of video which were of interest to the coach, allowing the audience to either watch everything or be selective, perhaps a player only wants to see the events they are involved in, for example.

Events created in myDartfish 360 S…
…are still available after upload to the Smart Cloud, in a similar format and with filter and search tools for use by the audience.

How did we get there? Well, you don’t have time after the match to go through it again, so you make electronic notes during the game by tapping pre-prepared descriptions on your mobile device. These time-stamp and label the things you want to review later.

Dartfish Note’s panels are built by you to include the key performance indicators which matter to you. This is the one we used to prepare the tutorial video but your panel could be as simple as a single button used to flag up examples of the skill you’ve been working on. Or it might include more detail, such as the player’s names drawn from a roster. That way each event will also be searchable by player.

Game Over. Now your notes are pretty much instantly sent to the Smart Cloud and the game video is imported from your camcorder by myDartfish 360 S. Your Notebook is already there. Combining it with video is as simple as dragging it onto the markers list. Review your events, select those to be shared and save them as a new movie in the cloud. The tech is done and dusted, leaving you with more time to coach. You can watch a video of this process.

Unboxing myDartfish 360

To discover more, you could start a trial right now and be sure to use the knowledge basevideo guides to get the most out of each app. Here are some highlights to look for:

Markers allow you to quickly jump to the moments that matter – such as this game changing score from a free kick.
Control has been optimized for touch screen with not only the slow motion and frame by frame that you might expect – but also the jog wheel and the possibility to select markers on the video’s timeline
Flag an event as top-rated and it becomes filterable. A superbly simple way of grabbing what really matters.
Drawings can be used to annotate video, still shots and events. Measures of time and angle too.
Most of your content is stored in cloud collections where it is safely backed up. However, it’s also possible to make it available offline for when you cannot rely on internet access. myDartfish 360 also gives access to subscriptions and favorites from dartfish.tv channels.
myDartfish 360 uses workspaces to give you one-touch optimised layouts. Pictured here is the library workspace which facilitates video management.
Last but not least, an online library means that all your devices are kept in sync so you can use your content whenever, wherever.
